Blades on Channel 7 News
Another amazing opportunity for Blades has come our way in the form of a segment in the channel 7 6pm news. Promoting Blades on such a widely viewed platform should peak people’s interest in the incredible sport of short track speed skating. A huge thank you to our star interviewees Chris, Malavai, Sophie and Deanna!
Australian Olympic Committee's #Have A Go Campaign
The AOC's #Have A Go Olympic campaign is making Blades more accessible to those who are interested. The campaign allows anyone interested to find information on their nearest short track speed skating club. After all, Olympians all start by doing Olympic sports as beginners.

Our head coach Chris was interviewed by Channel 9 weatherman Tim Davies for a live cross. We were able to Tim into some of our new boots and onto the ice to experience our amazing sport. Masters champion and world record holder Herbie got to show a bit of his form and some more of our members can be seen showing their skills in the background.

Herbie Succeeds at Winter World Masters Games 2015
Blades coach and Queensland Head Coach Coordinator, Herbie Labiche, represented Australia at the Winter World Masters Games 2015 in Québec City, Canada, in February 2015. See photo above, Herbie with fellow Australian competitior, Darius Eshete.

Herbie won gold in the 3000m relay and silver in the 45-49 Year Division, competing in the 500m, 1000m and 1500m races. Herbie came second in each of those races but broke all of his Australian Overseas record established in Ottawa, Canada in 2014: 500m 47.054 seconds previously, 48.410 seconds; 1000m 1:40.334 minutes, previously 1:46.590 minutes and 1500m 2:40.700 minutes, previously 2:45.300 minutes. For Herbie, being able to represent Australia again was an incredible experience. “I trained a lot harder this year with the help of Ann Zhang, former Australian National coach. As a result I broke my previous records.” said Herbie who will compete in the Australian Open Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Melbourne in October 2015. “I will continue training hard to accomplish similar success at the Australian Championships”, he said.
